The Early Childhood Educator Apprenticeship Program is designed to provide the initial training for individuals who want to help children develop their potential.
The apprenticeship training program incorporates both instruction-based learning through the Grand Rapids Community College that leads to earning the Child Development Associate Credential, and hands-on learning in a classroom with infants/toddlers or preschoolers under the guidance of a mentor teacher.
For the hands-on learning, apprentices are paid an hourly wage. This 12-month training program is supported by many employer partners and community organizations involved in early childhood education including: Baxter Child Development Center, Grand Rapids Early Discovery Center, Hispanic Center of Western Michigan: La Escuelita, YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids Child Development Center, the Early Learning Neighborhood Collaborative-Early Learning Center, and the Refugee Education Centers two sites: Explore & Learn Academy & Hands Connected.
