Early Childhood Education

Interested in helping children reach their potential?

Steepletown offers a 12-month Early Childhood Educator Apprenticeship Program.

The ECE apprenticeship training program combines instruction-based coursework with on-the-job training in an infant/toddler/preschool classroom.   At the completion of the coursework, which is offered through GRCC or Vibrant Futures, an apprentice can apply to earn their Child Development Associate (CDA) credential from the Council for Professional Recognition, which is a nationally-recognized credential in this profession.   The on-the-job training takes place at a child development center or preschool located in Grand Rapids/Kent County for which an apprentice is paid an hourly wage and most often benefits.

For those still trying to decide if this is a good fit for them, consider participating in the BASICS for Early Childhood Educators workshops.  This series of workshops will explore the roles and responsibilities of an early childhood educator through the lens of licensing and professionalism. Those attending receive a $200 stipend upon completing the workshops and a $300 bonus after completing 90 days of the apprenticeship.
