Big Dream-BIG Trucks

There is a lot more that can be said about this picture. Darrian contacted FCG Truck Driving School earlier this year because he always wanted to drive big trucks. FCG Truck Driving School then reached out to Steepletown after realizing he might be eligible for tuition assistance through the WIOA Workforce Development Program. Well, he did qualify and enrolled immediately.

Throughout the next month, Darrian finished the training and passed the testing for a CDL-A license.  In addition to supporting the costs of the training tuition, additional support service funds were used to reimburse his travel expenses to get him to and from the training site.

Darrian soon realized that he could be hired as a long-haul trucker almost immediately after he got his license. However, he shared how important it was for him to be home every night for his daughter so he looked for companies with local and regional truck routes that would be better fit his family’s needs.

On February 11th  Darrian started working at XPO Logistics in Grand Rapids.

Not long after he was hired, XPO Logistics became one of the companies moving critical health protection materials and other essential medical supplies to hospitals and medical facilities to combat the CoVid-19 pandemic.  We have all become more aware of how crucial the supply chain is during the past months, and the people who are part of that chain to keep vital services functioning.  We are proud and grateful to have helped Darrian follow his dream, especially now as he helps to provide such a valuable service.
